Maria Korolov currently covers artificial intelligence for CIO magazine and Computerworld, cybersecurity for CSO Online, quantum computing, data centers and networking for Network World, and other enterprise topics for many publications, including InfoWorld, PC World, Data Center Knowledge, TechTarget, Independent Banker, Treasury & Risk, and PaymentsSource.

In 2025, she won the Azbee National Gold Award from the American Association of Business Press Editors for her Network World coverage of quantum computing, and an Azbee Regional Silver Award for VMware coverage. In 2024, she won an Azbee Regional Silver Award for her coverage of ChatGPT’s security implications for CSO magazine. In 2020, she won an Azbee National Gold Award for her Network World article Private 5G keeps Whirlpool driverless vehicles rolling. In April 2018, she received the Azbee Regional Silver Impact/Investigative award at the New England ASBPE Awards of Excellence for the article “What is a supply chain attack?

She speaks regularly at industry conferences, both traditional and online, about artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and virtual reality. In 2024, she was the keynote speaker at the Data & AI Summit 2024 in Lima, Peru, in front of over 1,000 attendees and more than 100 other speakers, including senior executives from Google, Microsoft, Dell, and PwC. In 2022, she was a panel moderator for a cybersecurity discussion at the SANS Attack Surface Management Solutions Forum and has also spoken at and moderated panels at numerous other technology conferences and webinars.

Since 2015, she’s repeatedly been a judge of the CSO50 annual cybersecurity awards andthe Epica Awards.

September 2020 — Present

Editor and publisher, MetaStellar, an online publication dedicated to speculative fiction. As of mid-2025, MetaStellar had more than 1 million page views and published more than 1,500 pieces by more than 700 writers thanks to the efforts of about 100 editorial volunteers.

March 2009 — Present

Editor and publisher, Hypergrid Business. Since its launch, millions of people have visited Hypergrid Business, reading over 3,000 articles by more than 200 different contributors.

Attended this day-long seminar on financial statement analysis, co-sponsored by the Association of Investment Management and Research and SABEW. The session covered accounting bascis, like the balance sheet and cash flow. Top financial analysts also discussed today’s hot topics like stock options, revenue recognition, goodwill, pro formas, loan guaratees and principle-based accounting.

Attended a day-long seminar for security analysts, portfolio managers and other investment professionals to hear presentations by leaders in the field, such as Charles L. Hill of Thomson First Call and David Blitzer of Standard and Poor’s. The seminar was sponsored by the Association of Investment Management and Research and SABEW.

2002 Nieman Conference on Narrative Journalism

Attended three-day writing conference at Harvard University. Errol Morris, Molly Ivins, Malcolm Gladwell, Peter Turnley, Rick Bragg, Roy Peter Clark, The Kitchen Sisters, E. O. Wilson and more than a dozen other acclaimed storytellers covered the nuts-and-bolts of reporting, writing, and editing narrative, and focused on two themes – carrying narrative beyond mawkishness to illuminate complex institutional and societal stories; and, integrating editors into the narrative process.

Represented the SPJ at a two-day conference about libel and defamation laws sponsored by Reporters without Borders and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
